Getting started

Start a trial from Start a trial. Then: 1. Open Inventory and upload a device list (a CSV from Active Directory, Intune, SCCM or Lansweeper, or from the License Audit inventory script). 2. Open Licenses and add what you own, by hand or from a CSV. 3. Open Prices and check the unit costs. 4. Open Findings and choose Run audit. 5. Open Reports for the owner report, the IT list and the audit-defense pack.

Uploading inventory

Open Inventory, pick the source and choose a CSV file. License Audit reads common column names such as Name, Operating System, OS Version, Serial Number, Cores, Virtual and Host. You can replace the current device list or add to it. A second CSV of installed software (device name and product) is optional and is used for Office and SQL Server checks.

Inventory script

Open Inventory and choose Download the inventory script. It is a read-only PowerShell script. Run it on each Windows machine, or across machines with your usual management tool. It reads the OS edition and version, the license channel and activation status, the serial number, cores, whether it is a virtual machine, and installed Office and SQL Server products, and writes two CSV files to upload on Inventory. It changes nothing on the machine.

Adding licenses

Open Licenses. Add each license with its product, edition, channel (OEM, retail, volume or subscription), quantity and unit (device, core or user). For OEM licenses enter the serial number of the machine it shipped with. If a license was bought used or transferred, tick Transferred and enter the proof, such as an invoice or transfer document number. You can also upload a CSV with the same columns.

How matching works

Run audit compares each device with your licenses using Microsoft rules. OEM licenses only cover the machine whose serial number they list. Retail licenses can move to another machine. Volume and subscription licenses are counted from the pool you own. Used or transferred licenses need proof, or the device is flagged Proof needed. Windows Server is counted by cores: at least 16 per physical server and 8 per processor, and a Standard license set covers 2 virtual machines on that host. Server CALs are compared with the number of users you enter on Licenses, or with the number of client devices. A higher edition covers a lower one only for volume and subscription licenses. OEM and retail licenses must match the installed edition; Windows Pro OEM and retail licenses do allow downgrading to an earlier version of Pro (for example Windows 11 Pro to Windows 10 Pro), and License Audit treats that as covered when the edition matches.

Finding statuses

Compliant means a license you own covers the device. Unlicensed means no license covers it. Wrong edition means you own a lower edition than the one installed. Wrong channel means you own the edition but through a channel that cannot cover this device, such as an OEM license tied to another machine. Activation problem means Windows reports it is not activated. Proof needed means a used or transferred license covers it but has no proof recorded. Unused means you own licenses no device is using.

Cost to fix and savings

Open Prices to set the unit cost for each product and edition. The starting values are rough estimates, so replace them with your own quotes. After Run audit, each gap gets a cost to fix and each unused license gets a possible saving. The owner report totals both. These are estimates, not quotes.

End-of-support risk flags

Findings flag operating systems and Office or SQL Server versions that are past Microsoft's end of support (High) or that reach it within 12 months (Medium), such as Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012. Unsupported software no longer gets security updates. Check the dates against Microsoft's lifecycle pages before you plan upgrades.

Reports and PDF

Open Reports. The owner report shows the license position, cost to fix, savings and risk. The IT list shows every device and finding. Each one can be downloaded as CSV, as PDF with Download PDF, or printed with Print or save as PDF.

Audit-defense pack

Open Reports and choose Download audit-defense pack. It is one ZIP file with the owner report, the IT finding list, your license list with proof references, the device inventory and a reconciliation summary, all from the latest audit run. Review it with your advisor before you send anything to a vendor.

Trial and pricing

The free trial lasts 7 days for up to 250 devices. In the trial you can upload and run audits and see a summary: the number of issues by status, the total cost to fix, and a preview of the top 3 issues by cost. The full findings, the owner and IT reports (PDF, CSV and print) and the audit-defense pack need a plan: - Monthly: $99 a month - Yearly: $990 a year - One-time audit: $499, which permanently unlocks the full results of your current audit run but not new runs If you subscribe during the trial, the first charge is when the trial ends, and the full results unlock when that first payment goes through. The one-time audit unlocks them right after payment. Owners choose a plan on Billing, which also has Manage billing for invoices, card changes and cancelling. For more than 250 devices, or to have REKKY run it for you, use the question form on the Help page.

Data privacy

Each organization's devices, licenses and findings are visible only to its members. Passwords are stored hashed. The inventory script only reads information and does not send anything anywhere; you upload its CSV yourself.

Have REKKY run it for you

REKKY Consulting can run the audit for you. Use the question form on the Help page to tell us what you need, and we will contact you.

Account and password

Open Account to change your name, organization name or password. If you forgot your password, choose Forgot your password on Sign in to get a reset link by email. Teammates can also ask their organization owner to set a temporary password on Team. Owners can delete the organization and all its data under Account, Delete account, after typing DELETE and their password.

Adding teammates

Owners open Team and fill in Add a teammate: name, username, email, role (Owner, IT or Viewer) and a temporary password. No email invite is sent, so share the username and temporary password with the person yourself. They choose their own password the first time they sign in. Owners can also change a role, set a new temporary password or remove someone on Team.
